Bay Gold

Bay Gold is a New Zealand-bred tangelo, a mandarin crossed with grapefruit or pomelo, that brings together the best of both parents. The tree is an attractive grower with handsome foliage and perfumed spring flowers, making a good patio or garden specimen as well as a fruit tree. Fruit is larger than either parent, with golden-orange, easy-to-peel skin and deep, flavoursome, juicy flesh that is virtually seedless, in a refreshing tangy-sweet style. In New Zealand it fruits in spring, Mid on the relative tangelo scale. It is primarily a fresh dessert fruit for out-of-hand eating, with surplus juicing well. Keeping quality is moderate. Tangelos like warmth and sun for best flavour; plant in a sunny sheltered position in fertile free-draining soil, water regularly through establishment and fruiting, mulch, and feed in spring and summer. Available on standard rootstock or dwarfed on Flying Dragon for pots and small gardens. Self-fertile.

Seminole

Seminole is a Floridian tangelo bred from a Bowen grapefruit crossed with a Dancy tangerine, and the selection offered in New Zealand is an improved form: easy to peel, less seedy and juicy, without the juice running down your arm when peeling that traditional tangelos are known for. The tree is medium-sized but very heavy bearing, a reliable cropper for the home orchard. Fruit is medium-sized with deep red-orange skin and deep-orange, juicy, tangy-sweet flesh, ripening from September to December, Mid on the New Zealand tangelo scale. It is an excellent fresh dessert fruit, easy to peel and eat out of hand, with surplus juicing well. Keeping quality is moderate. Plant in a warm sunny position in fertile free-draining soil, water steadily through establishment and fruiting, mulch and feed in the growing season; available on standard or dwarfing Flying Dragon rootstock, the latter suiting pots and small gardens. Self-fertile.

Tinura

Tinura is a unique tangelo producing medium-sized, necked fruit with smooth orange skin. Its distinction is in the flesh: deep orange, very juicy, with more of a grapefruit flavour than traditional tangelos, making it a fantastic choice for people who enjoy grapefruit flavour but are unable to eat grapefruit itself. The tree is a fast grower and a medium to heavy producer, an easy, reliable citrus for New Zealand home orchards. Fruit ripens from September to December, Mid on the relative tangelo scale, and is easy to peel, excellent for fresh eating and juicing, with a refreshing tangy-sweet taste. Keeping quality is moderate. Plant in full sun in a sheltered, frost-free-leaning position in fertile free-draining soil, water regularly during establishment and fruiting, mulch, and feed with citrus fertiliser in spring and summer. Self-fertile.
