Flying Dragon

Flying Dragon is the dwarf contorted form of trifoliate orange (Poncirus trifoliata), sold in NZ by The Plant Company as Flying Dragon Citrus and championed by Flying Dragon Nursery, which introduced the rootstock to NZ. The Plant Company describes an evergreen shrub to 2 m with large thorns, white spring flowers and golf-ball yellow autumn fruit full of seeds with little pulp, primarily grown as a hardy thorny rootstock, dwarfing stock and impenetrable hedge rather than for fresh eating. Waimea Nurseries confirms Flying Dragon as its dwarfing citrus rootstock (trees to 2 m, earlier fruiting). Hardy, coastal-tolerant, low-maintenance.
