Description

An early-season variety named by Joe Corban. Green to purple-brown skin with amber flesh. Medium to large oblique pyriform fruit with a long main-crop picking window. Breba crop is unreliable. Similar in character to Robyn. Fruit profile: medium/large fruit, obliquely pear-shaped, with green, brown, purple skin and amber flesh, and an eye (ostiole) not yet documented. It bears a early main crop, typically February–March. A light breba crop may precede the main crop in warm seasons. Similar to Robyn. Growing areas: Most NZ districts with a warm, sheltered, sunny site; early ripening suits cooler areas too. In New Zealand figs are self-fertile and need no pollinator. Plant in the warmest sunny sheltered position available (a north or north-east aspect is ideal), protect young trees from heavy frost, and expect ripe fruit to be picked fully tree-ripe as figs neither store nor travel well.
