Description

Contorta is a cultivar of hazelnut. AKA Harry Lauder's Walking Stick. This unusual Hazelnut looks its best when it is bare in winter. The fascinating twisted and contorted branches are always a talking point. Attractive catkins in spring and fresh green foliage in summer. This tree also makes an attractive container plant but must be well watered in summer to avoid leaf scorch. The (Sir) Harry Lauder referred to was a well known Scottish Entertainer who was often seen with a twisted walking stick. Matures to around 3 m tall by 2 m wide.
