Description
Pyrus calleryana Chanticleer is the upright slender callery pear favoured for NZ urban planting, sold by The Plant Company: a strong central leader with evenly spaced ascending branches reaching 8-12 m by 4-5 m, clouds of pure white spring blossom, glossy green summer foliage and brilliant red-orange autumn colour. Disease-resistant, tolerant of varied soils and urban pollution, drought-tolerant once established and needing only light late-winter pruning. Ideal as a feature, screening or avenue tree for driveways and compact gardens.
